A sense of history
By choosing a superb historic location for your celebrations, you bring the echoes of the people and events that have shaped it though the centuries, to give your day a deeper, more meaningful quality.
Inspired by a French chateau, Old Wardour Castle was built in the late 14th century as a luxurious home by the fifth Lord John Lovel. During the English Civil war in the 1640s, the castle’s high stone walls were an easy target and it was damaged beyond repair. The ruin became a romantic feature in the landscaped grounds of New Wardour Housein the 18th century.
Today the immense ruined walls, gothic stairways and arched portals make wonderfully evocative locations for photographs and the castle is instantly recognisable from the film ‘Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves,’ starring Kevin Costner.
