Reasons to Get Married in Berkshire
You’ve popped the question, decided on a date, thought about who to invite (and possibly disagreed!) – now you need to pick a venue. It’s a crucial part of the day, as your guests first impression will be formed around it, and it’s the setting for the most important day of your life. You can get a second-hand dress/suit, save money on the wine by buying in bulk, but the one thing you can’t scrimp on is the venue. If you want a wedding in a picturesque, rural setting – why not get married in Berkshire?
Berkshire is one of the home counties, the counties in the South East of the UK known for their gorgeous scenery, green fields and quaint country settings. This already paints a picture as being a great place to get married, but wait, there’s more. Berkshire is of course home to Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the home to royals for around 1000 years, and is a residence of Queen Elizabeth herself. Arguably, this makes it one of the most royal places in the country, so if you and your partner are very regal, this could be the best place to tie the knot.
If you and your partner are mad about horse-racing, you’ll know that Ascot is in Berkshire. This means you could spend a weekend at the races after exchanging your vows… for a horse-mad couple this is ideal! The county is also a centre for rugby and football.
The choices of gay-friendly wedding venues in Berkshire are incredible. From stunning stately homes to cosy hotels, you’ll definitely be stuck for choice. Imagine your perfect day on a huge, green lawn, sipping champagne with your partner… doesn’t that sound like the perfect day?!
If you’re still not convinced, here are some interesting facts about Berkshire:
1. In 2005, Windsor Guildhall (a venue available on our site!) became one of the first places to host a civil ceremony, with none other than Elton John and David Furnish.
2. Jane Austen, one of the most influential writers of all time, attended school in Berkshire. You can check out our blog on romantic literary quotes by clicking here.
3. The first Little Chef was in Berkshire. Not the most romantic of wedding foods, but definitely a funny talking point for guests.
