Long Furlong Barn is a beautiful Grade II Listed Granary nestled in the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park. Having been used as the farm's grainstore since the 1880's the building was facing agricultural redundancy. Not wanting to loose this historically important barn, the family spent two years painstakingly restoring and repairing it, seeking to expose its beautiful heritage and provide a unique wedding venue with rustic character, contemporary facilities and uninterrupted views of the Sussex Downland.
Long Furlong offers three barns within the site. Dating back to the 1800's, the biggest barn, The Granary, is described by English Heritage as being:
"Notable for the very rare use of laminated roof timbers in an agricultural building. It is a fine example of a few across the country. The barn is built in the tradition of Medieval Tithe Barn".
In the Granary Barn, the restoration has sympathetically retained the magnificent curved roof beams soaring, cathedral like, for all to see. The walls have been finished with a traditional limestone mix to ooze warmth and enhance the rustic atmosphere. The barn has underfloor heating, perfect for those considering an atmospheric Winter Wedding, and the lighting has been carefully chosen to show off the character of the stunning ceiling.
The Granary can comfortably seat up to 150 for your wedding breakfast, with delicious first class food provided by one of four caterers from our carefully selected list.
Linked to The Granary is The Cart Shed, which is fully licensed for Civil Ceremonies and can spaciously accommodate 120 people. The building allows for a 20 metre aisle with the ceremony conducted directly in front of the breathtaking South Downs views – a stunning backdrop as you take your vows. With wooden floors, air conditioning and beautiful bi-fold doors that open onto a gorgeous sun trapped courtyard - it all makes for the perfect setting to say I do! In the evening the Cart Shed is perfect for dancing the night away whilst enjoying the bar or creating a relaxed chill-out zone whilst your guests dance in The Granary.
The South Barn Suite provides a luxurious, private retreat where couples can prepare for the big day or simpy take a moment to relax and enjoy a glass of Nyetimber Classic Cuvee. The room is furnished with relaxing sofas, luxurious soft furnishings, pretty mirrors and dressing table, with the all important great lighting!
There is an en-suite shower room fully stocked with luxurious Temple Spa products and fluffy towels on the heated towel rail. A superb B & W Zeppelin speaker to listen to your favourite songs and a Tassimo Coffee Machine complete the boutique feel, allowing you to get ready in a relaxed manner, peep at your guests arriving in the courtyard, or escape for a moment of peaceful privacy with your partner during your day.
In addition to the three barns there is the beautiful outside space. The gated south facing courtyard, traditionally used for the turning of grain wagons, has been professionally landscaped and enclosed with a traditional flint wall hand-built by local craftsmen. This beautiful area provides a sheltered setting for summer drinks after your ceremony and throughout your reception. There is also the possibility of covering the courtyard with a marquee to provide for the vagaries of the British weather!
From the Cart Shed there is the glorious lawned area with its completely uninterrupted views of the South Downs National Park. The view has already made it onto the Front Cover of Your Sussex Wedding Magazine, and is the perfect backdrop for your wedding at one of Sussex's newest venues.
