Same-sex marriage was legalised in the UK (with the exception of Northern Ireland) in March, 2014. However, should we now just assume that a wedding venue is "Gay-Friendly" just because the law says it should be?
Legally, any business can't discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation however, sadly, we are still hearing stories from couples who have been made to feel more than uncomfortable when enquiring to a wedding venue in the hope to book their big day. Thankfully, these stories are few and far between but...they are still happening.
We would love to read about your experiences...
Here at Pink Wedding Venues we have over 600 venues from across the UK who are showcasing with us, promoting to same-sex couples, assuring them of their support of same-sex marriage. We are continually growing the numbers of venues, who feature with us, and who pride themselves in being so welcoming.
We are always surprised to hear of venues who don't consider the same-sex wedding market as an important place to promote themselves. We can only surmise their reasoning but one thing is certain, we want to provide our LGBT couples with a resource where they can, confidently, search for the wedding venue of their dreams without fear of discrimination.
In order for us to develop our site, we would love to hear from you!
If you're recently engaged (congratulations!) and looking for a wedding venue, already celebrated your big day (congratulations!) or have attended a friend or family same-sex wedding, we are keen to read about your experiences with the venue(s) you've approached and/or visited:-
* Was the venue welcoming of your enquiry?
* Did they ask about your relationship status? - were there any "awkward" moments when you divulged your partners gender?
* On the big day, how were the staff? Were they respectful of you and your guests?
We hope to use your experiences in a new "real weddings" feature. We're not in to "naming, shaming or even highlighting" venues but, instead, we can use the information to provide tips and advice to other couples and also, to feedback to the venues we are in touch with to advise them on what to consider when they are planning their own marketing to our LGBT community.
We are happy to keep your submissions anonymous if you would like us to.
As a thank-you to all who are able to share their experiences we will randomly select an entry, on 31st August, to win £50 of Amazon Vouchers!
