One of our beautiful, award winning, venues in Dorset - The Italian Villa at Compton Acres - hosted the wedding of Groom's; Richard and Oliver on Thursday 30th May 2019.

The Italian Villa at Compton Acres and with kind permission from groom's; Richard and Oliver Elliott-Burnham, has kindly shared their day and celebrations with us at Pink Wedding Venues.

Oliver proposed to Richard in a beautiful 5-star hotel in Farnborough called The Aviator, in the Sky Bar, overlooking the airport as they were having cocktails.

Like many couples, they looked for the perfect venue to host their dream day and looked around a lot and looked at reviews online. The Italian Villa came out on top. Upon reading the reviews, they went to have a look around and loved everything The Italian Villa had to offer. “The gardens are just amazing, and both Richard and I loved the Japanese garden… and from then on we were sold!” said Oliver.

Oliver continued: “We can’t pick a highlight from our wedding – everything was perfect! However, the staff are world class, and nothing was too much hassle. It was great having a wedding planner as they knew what needed doing… it’s hard to imagine your perfect day when everything is just dropped off but the lay out was more than perfect. The timings from the day were great and we and our guest never felt rushed.”

Same Sex Wedding

When planning their special day. Oliver & Richard originally wanted black and gold as their theme but then they attended the wedding fair at The Italian Villa (“which we highly recommend”) and this ended up changing as both Richard and Oliver opted for lilac tones instead, working perfectly with the villa’s natural tones. The couple did, however, end up with a bit of their “black and gold” theme with their wedding cake design.

The food and drink was in one word: WOW!” said the couple. “All our guests said that it was the best food that they have eaten! The drinks in the garden were a lovely touch and gave all the guests the chance to talk to each other, making the whole day so much more relaxed. Your guests here will not go hungry or every need to ask for a drink!”

Richard and Oliver didn’t know what each other was wearing. Oliver chose burgundy tones and Richard opted for burnt orange hues. The colour of the backdrop in the gardens was a stunning setting: “We both had suits and bow ties on and again it was just perfect.”

Photography was a real highlight of the day for the gentlemen: “It was hard to pick our favourite picture of the day as everywhere in the Italian Villa and garden, you will get that perfect picture that will last a life time. If we had to choose just one, we loved the picture of Richard and I in the Japanese garden!”

Any advice for future couples?
“I would highly recommend the villa’s in-house wedding shows (typically take place in January, May and October), as these will give you a great idea on what you really wanted.”

Any great suppliers you would recommend?
“For the evening, we hired Absolute Fun Casino, and this kept the children happy all night - we never saw them for over 3 hours! This also bought out the inner-child in our adult guests too.”

“Balloon-A-Room provided our centrepieces and the chair-covers, which we loved.”

“Courtenay Photographic was great and you never knew he was with us - the photos were so natural!”

“Dr Disco was amazing and took requests all night long.”

“Premier cars picked us up in beautiful wedding cars.“

“We also wanted to support a local business in Farnborough where we are from, and asked the Little Craft Bird to make us a filled letter and wreath. We are so please we did – not only were they amazing but this was the best keepsake of the memory of our wedding.”

“Our top tips for wedding couples are attend a wedding fair and get better ideas and see what things actually look like. Trust your wedding planner – this is something I found hard, but they know what they are doing. Don’t put a price on your wedding.”

How was it dealing with the venue?
“Both Richard and I can’t thank the Italian villa highly enough for everything they did. It was the most perfect day the team here were perfect. All are guests said it was the best wedding, food and service they had ever had, and 2 weeks later are still talking about it! It says something when the wedding party are getting thank you cards for the most amazing day.

Marks out of 10 for 10 wedding is 20 out of 10. Thank you the Italian Villa!”
